WHAT IS LPG?
Liquefied Petroleum Gas, or LPG, is a mixture of butane (70%) and propane (30%) gases. The gas mixture is liquefied under pressure. LPG produced from the refining of crude oil or natural gas is heavier than air and flammable. Although it is colorless and odorless, it is odorized at the production site to detect possible gas leaks. When one liter of LPG gasifies, it reaches a gas volume of approximately 250 liters.
Since it can be easily liquefied under pressure, it is stored in steel tubes or stock tanks. It can be easily transported when filled into steel tubes. Since its boiling point is below 0o C, it evaporates easily at atmospheric temperature. LPG is especially preferred because it evaporates more easily and can be stored more easily compared to other fuels.
LPG is generally used as a fuel in heating, industrial production and in cars as an alternative to gasoline. LPG used as fuel in cars must comply with the Autogas Quality Standard.
